Collaboration between Drum and Compass Group in crisis communications awarded at the Finnish Comms Awards

Finnish Comms Awards, organised by Marketing Finland, celebrated the year’s best communication works. Drum and Compass Group’s successful crisis communication collaboration was awarded the best of the year. The collaboration between Drum and the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health in the Mental Health Toolkit project was shortlisted in the Project communication category.

Active communication to overcome the mess caused by makaronilaatikko

Makaronilaatikko (engl. macaroni casserole) turned into quite a mess in Janakkala. Drum helped Compass Group Finland overcome a reputation crisis over a traditional makaronilaatikko the company made for school meals. The crisis threatened to sever customer relationships and spread nationwide. The partnership came close to ending, but eventually trust was built between the parties.

Drum provided strategic and tactical support to Compass Group Finland’s CEO, Business Director, Brand and Communications Director and communications team throughout the crisis. The importance of internal communications was highlighted in a crisis situation where internal staff were under criticism. Systematic efforts were made to build trust through both internal and external communication.

Collaboration between Drum and the Occupational Health Institute shortlisted

The Finnish Institute of Occupational Health’s Mental Health Toolkit project provides workplaces with tools to improve well-being at work and promote a more humane working life.

Drum helped the project to communicate the overall message so that workplaces would pay more attention to the issue and adopt the tools in the toolkit. We designed and implemented a concept that makes a complex issue concrete and appealing to target audiences.

Drum’s Katri Pelli in the jury

This year’s jury also included familiar faces, as Drum’s Account Director Katri Pelli was able to contribute to the selection of the best communication works of the year.

“Judging was a great and educational experience. Us office workers rarely get the chance to see and hear about the work of other agencies in more detail. I got to review a huge amount of entries and their quality took my breath away! We have great communication skills in Finland and brave clients who are willing to take a chance. This would not be possible without a trusting relationship between client and agency. All the work conveyed the feeling that it had been done as a team,” says Pelli.
